an idle PS to "... how he moves from puddle onto kidney-shaped pool of spilled milk - while practicing maneuvers that are belied in his pedagogic Foreword... In fact, Nabokov intended the Krug mnemonic "signature," that connects the recovered sensation of creamy and blue in Krug's mug to Adam Krug himself ( cf. "Mugakrad-Gumradka" after Paduk's erasures)
Quite accidentaly, thanks to a game of scrabble, I discovered that there is a (rare) word in Portuguese that indicates Bend Sinister's fatidic and insistent "kidney-shaped" puddles. It describes the form of a kidney or a bean by departing from the Latin designation of the latter: "Phaseolus vulgaris." A neologism in English would describe a"phaseolar" or a "phaseolate" puddle using one word only!
