For a hundred years, the argument that this novel is has been identified, reidentified, examined, waged and advanced. What it cannot be is dismissed. It is classic literature, which is to say it heaves, manifests and lasts.

Dana Dragunoiu is Associate Professor of English at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. Her first book, Vladimir Nabokov and the Poetics of Liberalism, was published in 2011 by Northwestern University Press. Her second book, titled Vladimir Nabokov and the Art of Moral Acts, will be published this fall also by Northwestern University Press. Her work on Nabokov has appeared in several academic journals (Comparative Literature, Nabokov Studies, Contemporary Literature and Journal of Modern Literature) and collections of essays such as Nabokov in Context, Nabokov Upside Down and Approaches to Teaching Lolita. She is the General Editor of TheNabokovian.org.
