New Year's Message from President of IVNS, Lara Delage-Toriel

By dana_dragunoiu, 24 December, 2020

Dear members,

As this difficult year draws to a close, I would like to send you all my warmest greetings, hoping 2021 will see a gradual return to the joys we've all been missing.

I would like to thank all the members of the board of the IVNS, who have helped me steer the IVNS ship during my first year as president of the IVNS.

I would like to extend my thanks to this year's IVNS prize judges, whose steadfast work resulted in the choice of five laureates, which have all been announced on our website:https://thenabokovian.org/node/52293

This year's laureates were:

Alisa Shimoyama (Ellen Pifer Prize)

Luke Sayers (Dieter Zimmer Prize)

Tatyana Gershkovich (Gene Barabtarlo Prize)

Andrei Babikov (Jane Grayson Prize)

Stanislas Shvabrin (Jane Grayson Prize)

I would like to publicly congratulate the laureates and remind you that nominations for these prizes can either be done through recommendation or through self-nomination (with the supervisor's endorsement for an undergraduate essay), as from January 2021, using the following address:  <nabokovprizes@yahoo.com>

Details about the prizes may be found here: https://thenabokovian.org/prizes

I also would like to remind you that 1st January 2020 is the deadline for sending a proposal to participate in our first major Nabokov Conference to be held in the United States in over two decades, Hidden Nabokov.

More details here: https://thenabokovian.org/node/52260

Another event to look forward to, in the nearer future, is the Nabokov panel at the MLA Convention on 7th January 2021, which will be virtual this year and therefore more readily accessible to non-US residents. The panel is entitled "Playing with/for Time: The Persistence of Nabokov's Images" and has been selected by Judith Butler to feature within the main theme of the convention. If you intend to attend, please let me know!
More details about the papers and registration (with early-bird fee until 28th December) here:https://thenabokovian.org/node/52272

Finally, do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to discuss Nabokov-related projects and/or wish to contribute to our society's missions: inspiring ideas are always welcome!

Wishing you a peaceful and joyful Christmas,

Lara Delage-Toriel
