A recent reference to VN in popular culture:
In an article entitled "The Last Emperor" in The New Yorker (Nov. 7 1994),
Anthony Lane compares the "most powerful designer in the world" Karl
Lagerfeld to Nabokov: "There is more than a dash of Nabokov in Lagerfeld:
the classy solitude of his upbringing, the mental speed that is easily
taken for arrogance, the restive obsession with detail that is bred by
unending exile. `Where is home?' I asked him. `Wherever I am,' he replied"
(85).
