EDITOR's NOTE. Gavriel Shapiro, Chair of the Russian Department at
Cornell where VN spent the pre-LOLITA decade, is arranging a Nabokov
Festival for 1998. The preliminary program is below. As speakers at the
scholarly conference will be BY INVITATION ONLY, please do NOT submit
proposals. NABOKV-L will post further news as it becomes available.

The Cornell Nabokov Festival is slated for 10-13 September, 1998.
It celebrates 50 years since Nabokov's arrival at Cornell (1948) and his
upcoming centenary. The focal point of the Festival will be a scholarly
conference, by invitation only, in which the leading Nabokovians will take
part.
In addition, the following events, among others, are planned:
1. Display of the first editions, archival materials and other Nabokov
memorabilia.
2. Concert of music, with the participation of Dmitri Nabokov.
3. Exhibit of Kathryn Jacobi's etchings for Invitation to a Beheading.
4. Exhibit of Nabokov's butterfly collection.
5. Films based on Nabokov's works such as Lolita
(1962 and 1996), Laughter in the Dark (1969), and Despair (1978).
