Sergej Davydov also suggests (Garland Companion, 100.21) that when in his
1965 translation of DESPAIR Nabokov inserted a chair into Hermann's dream,
he was mocking Jung's famous dream about a golden throne representing
afterlife. I find it an intriguing and plausible suggestion.
