As the man who started this awful Stratfordian business, I'd like to suggest
we keep at it a little while longer. I think it is a fascinating question
for the reasons I noted in my reply to Mr. Kartsev.
Whatever belief Nabokov may have had in the Oxfordian facts would, I
suggest, be offset by that strain of Oxfordian scholarship which plunders plays
for clues. The more I think about this, the more fascinating the question
becomes. In his lectures on Gogol, Proust, Austen and Joyce, memorably,
Nabokov warned students not to look to the text for biographical facts. I am
certain he would say the same regarding the Shakespeare authorship debate.
I would like to hear what the people here have to say on the topic.
