Robert Irwin's review in the _Times Literary
Supplement_ of 24 Oct. 1997, p. 30, complains that "It might also have
been interesting toyo explore the the presence of spiritualist and occult
themes and their links with word-play in the novels of VN." and goes on to
remark VN's admiration for Bely. It appears to me that some of the essays
inthe volume might be value background for reading some of VN.
