I WAS AT THE PREMIERE AFTER HAVING GIVEN, THROUGH ROSTROPOVICH, THAT

LIMITED PERMISSION. THERE WAS BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE CRITICAL

REACTION. BUT A HUGH SUCCESS WITH THE AUDIENCE. I UNDERSTAND _LOLITA_

HAS BEEN IN THE STOCKHOLM REPERTORY EVER SINCE. I DISAGREE WITH SOME OF

THE _TIME_ COMMENTS, AND CONCUR WITH SOME, ALTHOUGH THE WRITER GOT THE

PERMISSIONS STORY WRONG. IN PARTICULAR, THE STAGING WAS SUPERB, AND

LISA GUSTAFSSON A VERY LUCKY FIND. THE LIBRETTO HAS JUST BEEN

NABOKOVENGLISHED FOR POSSIBLE FUTURE PERFORMANCE.
