EDITOR's NOTE. For some years artist/writer Jeff Edmunds, published on
NABOKV-L April Fool's Day VN "mystifications" -- in the tradition of
Nabokov himself. Edmunds, founder and editor of ZEMBLA, the VN Butterfly
Net continued his tradition on ZEMBLA. The ingenious hoaxes were all too
successful, with numerous people assuming the existence of "new" Nabokov
material. Sergey B. Il'in <isb@glas.apc.org>, Nabokov's foremost
English-Russian translator, published an account and partial translation
of Edmunds' project for for the 1 April issue of the literary supplement
to a leading Russian newspaper. Ilyin's account follows:
