> ANNOUNCING THE NABOKOV PROSE-ALIKE CENTENNIAL CONTEST
>
>Each entrant, who must be a member of the International Vladimir Nabokov
>Society, may submit a 400-word-maximum piece of prose imitating VN's
>style as closely as possible --earnest, not jocular -- not an obvious
>parody or pastiche -- prose of any sort, including epistolary. For the
>sake of plausibility, the submitted piece ought to have the look of an
>excerpt rather than a finished composition.
>
>Each entrant may submit only ONE entry, by email, to D. Barton Johnson at
><chtodel@humanitas.ucsb.edu>. Entries must be received no later than
>February 21, 1999. All entries will be forwarded anonymously to the
panel of judges. Winning entrants will subsequently be asked to supply a hard
>copy of their texts to insure absolute accuracy. The winner will receive
>$100; the two runners-up will each receive a free 3-year society
>membership/NABOKOVIAN subscription.
>
>The three winning pieces will be published in the spring 1999 issue of THE
>NABOKOVIAN along with one or two previously unpublished pieces of VN's
>prose. Readers will be invited to pick out the original(s) and the
>imitations, and inform the editor of their selections. The results of
>this reader poll will then be published in next fall's issue, along with
>the names of the winners.
>
>Anyone who is not yet a member of the International Vladimir Nabokov
>Society is encouraged to join. For details see ZEMBLA on the WEB, or
