Have just finished Morton Cohen's fine biography _Lewis Carroll_ and
commend it to you. Having been educated by VN to enjoy coincidences
I note the Dodgson, Like Nabokov (and Joyce!) was troubled with in-
somnia, and often did his creative work at night. (Althought several
have pointed out that the White Knight is a self caricature, I don't
understand why none seem to have pointed out the 'nuit blanche' means
'sleepless night'.)

The Bishop of Elphin was godfather to both of Dodgson's parents.
Dodgson signed other pseudonyms to some of his non-mathematical works,
including using the initials "B. B." as VN did often in the letters to
Wilson.

One of his verses is entitled "Palace of Humbug".

His poem, "A Sea Dirge" is patterned after Annabel Lee.

(apologies for these trivia)

John

EDITOR's NOTE: One good trivium deserves another: VN is the coiner of the
word "Lutwidgean". See Transparent things. Also NB that the
singular/plural semantic differentiation of trivium/trivia echoes that of
the Nabokvian stigma/stigmata. And let us never forget dejectus/dejecta.
