Dave Eggers' memoir, "A Heartbreaking Story of Staggering Genius" may be of
interest to some of you on the list. It's receiving considerable attention
and, in several ongoing discussions on the Internet, being loosely compared
to Nabokov and Roth, or rather, a synthesis of the two, along with other
major influences. (Chekov came most frequently to mind as I read through it,
but I could also feel "Pale Fire" and "Speak, Memory" winking between the
lines.) It's also very funny. Judge for yourselves.
