VN Bibliography; Robert Dirig's "Nabokov's Rainbow"
Date
Body
Lepidopterists are celebrating the Nabokov Centenary with no less
enthusiasm than fiction readers (not that the groups are mutually
exclusive). Robert Dirig, Curator of the Cornell University herbaria, has
a handsomely illustrated article, "Nabokov's Rainbow" in the Fall 1999
issue of _American Butterflies_ 7, #3, pp. 4-10. Dirig is a specialist on
the Karner Blue, described by Nabokov, and corresponded with VN on the
subject.
Three Nabokov-related butterfly books have or are appearing in the
centenary year. NABOKOV'S BLUES: THE SCIENTIFIC ODYSSY OF A LITERARY
GENIUS, by Kurt Johnson and Steve Coates; Sarah Funke's VERA'S
BUTTERFLIES, devoted to VN's butterfly drawings in gift editions of his
works for Vera, and NABOKOV'S BUTTERFLIES: UPUBLISHED AND UNCOLLECTED
WRITINGS, edited and annotated by Brian Boyd & Robert Pyle.
