VLADIMIR NABOKOV. LOLITA. A READER'S GUIDE TO ESSENTIAL CRITICISM, ED.
CHRISTINE CLEGG. See www-site for details:
http://www.iconbooks.co.uk/cg/cgbook.cfm?BookID=28
This short volume is a useful survey of the history of LOLITA criticism
in English. It consists of excerpts from books, book chapters, and
articles on LOLITA by decade and examines the shifting focus of the
critical paradigm. ALthough the editor appears to be a specialist in
women's studies, Clegg provides an even-handed treatment with excellent
documentation and notes. No Nabokov specialist, she seems unaware of
recent work, especially by Alexander Dolinin, and others that cast doubt
on the "reality" of late events in the tale.
