An illustration of Nabokov's pervasive influence, even in obscure
corners
of the world: Earlier today, wandering idly through the studio of the
advertising
agency at which I work, I picked up a copy dated 2000 of Caribbean Way,
"The
Inflight Magazine of Air Caribbean" (a small Trinidadian airline which
went
bankrupt some months ago). Glancing at the masthead, I noticed a few
odd names in
the list of editorial contributors: Dolores Haze, Charles Kinbote, John
Humbert-Shade.
I could not actually find any articles ascribed to these persons.
I suspect a bored freelance writer.
