EDITOR's NOTE.
Carl Proffer, who published one of the first critical monographs on VN, was,
with his wife Ellendea Proffer, the founder of Ardis Publishers which had
the rights to all of VN's Russian language works. Ardis was also the
publisher of several of the early studies of VN's works. AS friends of the
Nabokovs, the Proffers were given access to many family photographs. Many of
these were published in Ellendea Proffer photobiography of VN. A selection
of these pictures are now available for viewing at the Ardis www address
below.
