DARING KHWAHISH STAR PUSHES BOUNDARIES EVEN FURTHER
Rising star Mallika Sherawat is set to push the sensual boundaries even
further with her next film Murder. The daring actress who became
infamous for her 17 kissing scenes in Khwahish will be passionately
kissing two of her leading actors in Murder.
The former model has come a long way in a short time. She will also be
seen in an untitled Indo-French production, which will have a French
director and an Indian producer.
A film based on the life of late Australian missionary Graham Staines is
being planned. Titled Murder of a Missionary the film will be shot in
English and Hindi and focus on the life of Staines during his stay in
India.
Staines, a 57-year-old Baptist who had worked in India with leprosy
patients since 1965, was sleeping in his station wagon in a village in
Orissa on January 23, 1999 when he was attacked by a mob shouting
anti-Christian! slogans. He was tragically murdered along with his two
young sons Timothy and Philip.
They were burnt alive by the mob led by hard line political activist
Dara Singh, who was last month sentenced to death for the crime. The
court jailed 12 others for life in the killing of Staines and his sons
aged eight and 10.
Actor Irfan Khan will play the role of Dara Singh whilst a Hollywood
actor will be signed up to play the role of Graham Staines
When I met up with controversial director Shashilal Nair for dinner last
week he revealed details of his new film project. The Ek Chotisi Love
Story director will be following up the tale of the young boy in love
with an older woman with a Bollywood remake of Lolita ? the notorious
Stanley Kubrick movie based on Vladimir Nabokov?s classic novel.
The film will be shot in a start to finish shooting schedule from the
first week of November. The story of the older man falling for a young
girl stars Jackie Sh! roff and Dimple Kapadia in the lead roles. A
newcomer will be cast as the teenage Lolita.
The failure of Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon hasn?t stopped
another producer from putting the name of a famous film star in the
title of the movie. Main Banna Chahti Hoon Aishwarya is a low budget
film nearing completion. The two heroines Ashwini Kale and Manisha have
been dressed up as Aishwarya Rai look-alikes in the film.
The film has been written and directed by Arif Khan, who interestingly
is a lookalike of actor Anil Kapoor. Main Banna Chahti Hoon Aishwarya
will be released in February.
Action thriller Charas ? A Joint Effort is slowly reaching completion.
Written and directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, Charas-A Joint Effort stars
Jimmy Shergill, Uday Chopra, Namrata Shirodkar, Hrishitaa Bhatt and
Irfan Khan in the lead roles.
Sujoy Ghosh will follow up his impressive debut Jhankaar Beats by
directing an English film. Although the story of the film has been
adapted from classic Indian literature i! t will be a British movie with
a mostly English cast; only two Indian stars will be cast in the film.
Ghosh says the film titled, Minds Without Fear, is aimed at the global
audience. Adapted from a short story by Rabindranath Tagore, the big
budget film will be launched next summer.
Before he begins work on the film, Ghosh will write and direct his
second feature Borivali, which is a low budget Indian film.
The latest in a long line of film stars turning their hands to
production is Akshaye Khanna. Instead of producing a Bollywood film like
all the other stars, Akshaye will apparently be producing an English one
for the world market.
Jackie Shroff and Sahil Khan have been signed up to star in murder
mystery thriller Dewani. The leading ladies will be signed up in the
coming weeks before the film embarks on a start-to-finish shooting
schedule.
All of the film?s songs have been recorded using the voices of leading
vocalists Abhijeet! , Sunidhi Chauhan, Hema Sardesai and Sujata.
Two leadin g producers are fighting it out for the rights to the film
title Sipahi.
Keshu Ramsay, who is currently producing big budget thriller Khakee, had
wanted the title for his next film, but producer Deepak Shivdasani had
already registered it.
Keshu Ramsay has signed up Ajay Devgan and Akshay Kumar to star in his
film.
The producers of Bardaasht completed a major 28-day shooting schedule in
and around Mumbai last month. The climax of the film and two songs were
shot during the schedule.
Bardaasht stars Bobby Deol, Lara Dutta, Ritesh Deshmukh and Tara Sharma
in the lead roles. The film is being directed by E. Niwas and Vikram
Bhatt has written the story.
Bollywood babe Raveena Tandon got engaged to her boyfriend Anil Thadani
earlier this week, in secret. A very small and private affair, the
engagement ceremony coincided with Raveena?s birthday. Raveena met her
film distributor boyfriend during the making of her debut production S!
tumped.
