Thanks to Dmitri, George, Victor Fet and Peter Dale for help with the
otherworldly word.
I am sorry to Sergei that my silly reply (that he should ask Capote)
wasn't
helpful. I'm sure he is correct that in order to have access to such a
prisoner one would have to jump through hoops. But certainly it wasn't
impossible, and I believe that many notorious killers have been
interviewed
in prison.
By the way, this reminds me that at that time criminals would not have
been
kept in strict solitary confinement except for short periods of time.
So
they could have visitors under some circumstances.
