Query: cover of Speak, Memory (Penguin ed.)?

The cover of Penguin edition of Speak, memory shows a stylish collage of
various objects and images. I guess I've identified almost all of them,
with reference to pages of the work. But a presence remains unexplained
to me: at the center of the collage, a badge (or maybe a fiche?) bearing
just the number 37, in red on white.
Could that object connects to the fiche replacing a rook on the
chessboard used by two Vladimir N., playing on the ship leaving forever
Russia? Even so, why 37?
Thanks to anyone could help me.
