Lewis Carroll did suffer from a speech impediment-but only when speaking with adults. It cleared up when speaking with children (NO, I do not want to psychoanalyze that!). At least some of the Alice stories were told orally to the Liddell girls.

Dear Stan,

Didn't Carroll suffer from a speech impediment? I don't think he could have managed "Frice". But since you bring up this mathematical problem, do we know how old Humbert Humbert is is (or should I say "are"?) when he encounters the fatal nymphet?
