Dear list,
Please find attached a .pdf of the Notes and Queries article on McDiarmid.
As Jerry mentioned, it contains "incoherent transactions," Southey, and the
quotes from VN's private notes (quoted by Boyd in LoA). It also provides
almost all of the preface, which I have argued bears some resemblance to the
Kinbote-Shade narrative; in both cases an eccentric, exuberant person from a
northern clime tries to use a stranger to get his story into print. It seems
likely to me that it is also the source from which Fittis drew his excerpt.
