A good short review of/introduction to the novel. This was VN's first
novel written in English, and I think it reveals a lot about the state of mind
of a writer who was forced by circumstances to change languages in
mid-career, an unprecedented metamorphosis as far as I know. The novel also
introduces some of the metafictional techniques that VN pioneered long before others
attempted them.
