Hello,

Lolita was translated by Zabihollah Mansouri in a weekly
journal - “Art and Cinema” - around 1958, almost immediately after the novel's publication in US.  Today, however,  it is  available as a book in the black market. Since
then no other complete legal or illegal translation of Lolita has appeared, although
parts of it are translated in translation journals and books.
 I have not read
Mansouri’s translation myself but it is almost always considered by Iranian
translators and critics as an example of unfaithful translation.

Best Regards,
Gholamreza Shafiee

Subject: [NABOKV-L] Persian version of Lolita

Hello List,
The other day I saw 'Lolita' in Persian translation at an illegal bookseller  on the streets in Iran (and yes, it was in Teheran). The book looked to date at least to the 80s, but maybe actually dated to the 60s or 70s, before the revolution when it could still be printed legally in the country.
So I wonder can anyone tell me when 'Lolita' was for the first time translated to Persian and published in Iran?

A great many thanks
