Nabokovian Victor Fet will talk about Igor Sirin (1987-2025) and his translation of Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass
A new translation of Through the Looking-Glass into Russian was completed in 2020 by the Ukrainian poet and translator Igor Prikhozhai (pen name Igor Sirin, call name Polyglot) (1987—2025). Igor was killed in action on 12 November 2025
Igor Prikhozhai adopted pen name ‘Igor Sirin’ in reverence to Nabokov, his beacon and role model. Igor’s Looking-Glass translation is stylized as a sequel to Vladimir Sirin’s Ania.

Victor Fet is a Professor of Biology at Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia since 1995, and an expert on scorpions. He was born in Ukraine in 1955, grew up in Siberia, worked for many years in Turkmenistan as a zoologist, and emigrated with his family to the USA in 1988. Victor was the first translator of The Hunting of the Snark into Russian (1976-1981, first published 2001; Evertype edition 2016). He has authored 18 books of poetry and prose, among them a science fantasy Alice and the Time Machine (English and Russian versions, 2016). Over the last 20 years, Victor has published a number of Carrollian and Nabokovian studies. He is a volunteer Consulting Editor for Evertype, and in 2015-2022 helped to recruit translators for the AAIW editions in nine rare languages of the former USSR. In 2022-2026, Victor served as a volunteer editor of an anti-war anthology God poezii (A Year of Poetry) published in Kyiv, Ukraine.
