From Tatiana Ponomareva:

Yesterday we received very sad news from Rozhdestveno: Alexander Semochkin, the first director of the Rozhdestveno Museum, died after a long illness. He was known  to all Nabokov scholars who came to Rozhdestveno in the1990s and the early 2000s. It was thanks to his hard work and his perseverance that the Rukavishnikov/Nabokov mansion was rebuilt after the devastating fire of 1995. His knowledge of Vyra and Rozhdestveno was immense and so was his love for them. During one of the many tours of Rozhdestveno he led for conference participants, he was asked if he was a native of this area. "Yes, I was born in Vyra" he answered. And then he added firmly: "And I hope to die here."
