In re Gayla Diment on Camille Paglia who says she "is
not sure one should call what she [CP] does a 'feminist critique'--
that's the case where both Paglia and feminists may be equally
insulted by such a labeling. My personal opinion,
of course, but as Nabokov would say a strong one!"
If she [GD] is "not sure" how can the opinion be "a strong one"?
If she is sure how did she come to own the dictionary? CP
can't claim to be a "feminist" after all she has written
on women's issues? She is also imo a very good critic (on
Antony and Cleopatra eg) in Sexual Personae. She alludes to
VN and discusses his work somewhat in VAmps and Tramps but
so far mostly has discussed "Lolita" from the pov of what
it means for pop culture eg Amy Fisher the Long Island Lolita.
We don't own _Lolita_ and I don't see why the issues it has
taken on by association for people who have never read the
book can't be discussed by people who have.
