A brief comment on “multi-layering”, a term
employed in A.Perlstein’s persuasive argumentation. Perhaps this
term could be set close to the other one, “overdetermination”
(employed by Freud in the early Twentieth Century, to describe
the superimposing threads of dream images forming knots at the
points at which many different themes converged and crossed in a
dynamic process ). In that case the “multilayering” is often a
phenomenon of language, inescapable at times but not a
deliberate complex network of allusions that are managed and
intended by the author. JM
