Mary H.Efremov: good point,Jansy, Marina knew quite well *
Jansy Mello: There’s an insistence in VV’s writings about his similarity to Ivan Durmanov (the scenes in the hammock between tulip trees, for example) and on Marina’s tears while remembering her dead brother. Was she indicating her own sibling incest (Marina/Ivan) experiences by drawing a parallel with her two older children’s?
Van Veen elsewhere mentioned the dangers involving those who had not “Demon’s blood” ( Lucette, nanny Black Ruby, aso). Ivan Durmanov was not a Veen and succumbed. Nevertheless, Marina wasn’t a Veen either. Aqua was a victim but Marina survived in her own way. How did she manage?

* - JM: Why is Lucette absent from the collection of framed family photographs? Ivan’s open shirt indicates Byron - and sibling incest.
