The new edition of Nabokov's "Mademoiselle" is only a new paperback edition of
a book published for the first time in 1982. The collection of short stories
entitled "Mademoiselle O" in French is the translation of "Nabokov's Dozen" I
did with my wife. It includes the original French text of "Mademoiselle O"
which Véra Nabokov, who revised the translation, sent me at the time. In this
paperback, it is that text which is reproduced. The original publisher of the
book, Julliard, chose to entitle the collection "Mademoiselle O", no doubt as a
publicity stunt (in reference to "Histoire d'O"); the cover was deliberately
sexy (pink and black).
