Hafid: If I remember correctly Nabokov said
that his intention was that there should be no dot after 'northern
land' in the last entry of the index - an indication of the suicide Kinbote
has been contemplatinge before in his despair en commentary ('Dear Jesus, help
me!'). I dont't remember, however, whether he said this in an interview or
whether Boyd mentions it in his biography..PS
The Library of America edition of PF, edited by Dmitri Nabokov and Boyd, does
have a dot, though.
JM: Ex Ponto –
Zembla, northern land… ponto=dot
Btw: Would Nabokov have been
thrilled by the first and last syllables in the word “IN-d-EX”?
