JM: Isn't this laying excessive emphasis on the
linearity of after-life, its talking spirits in limbo, hell and
paradise, and not as metaphors about being caged in time and
space? What about Shade's hints at a transcendental dimension with
its parallel, cohexisting worlds? Am I wrong to imagine
that the entire "IPH" canto is a parody of spiritualistic rituals,
institutionalized religious beliefs?
