Another instance of VN's use of this word -a memorably alliterative and assonant sentence:

"His constant companion in riparian pastimes was Vasiliy, the blacksmith's son..." The Circle in A RUSSIAN BEAUTY AND OTHER STORIES, p. 259 (1973, 1st ed.)

Dictionary.com's Word of the Day for September 15 was "riparian"; one of the examples of its use is from a VN interview:

[What about your social circle?] "A steady stream of brilliant American intellectuals visiting me in the riparian solitude of a beautifully reflected sunset."
-- Vladimir Nabokov, "Nabokov on Nabokov and Things", New York Times, May 12, 1968

The interview, of course, appeared not in the New York Times, but in the New York Times Book Review, and is one of those reprinted in Strong Opinions.

"The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious ... the fundamental emotion which stands at the cradle of true art and true science." - Albert Einstein (1879-1955).
