Dear
Carolyn, Jansy, William and any other sharp-eyed sleuths who teased
out that recollection of mine:
You
found exactly what I expected you would, and what dear friend Brian had
cited (with a small miscue). But did you notice, in the second
paragraph of my "Word about PALE FIRE," the Magician's putative caveat
that was the point of my discourse? I quote:
"It
is possible, however, that Father might have perused the more brilliant
dovody [Russ: "arguments" - DBJ], rubbed his chin between thumb and
index, then perhaps pursed his lips as he sometimes did in mock
chagrin, and said "Maybe I didn't realize it and they're right."
Warm
greetings to all,
Dmitri
