I know I've come across some scholars addressing this issue, but I can't quite recall what I've read, and in reading Lolita, I am struck by Humbert’s guesses as to the recipients of the three letters that Charlotte attempts to mail. He thinks one is to Lolita, one to a reformatory school, and one to him. I have an idea that Humbert may be wrong about the last letter going to him, but I haven’t thought it through enough yet. Are there any alternative theories about the letters’ recipients?
Thanks for any remarks you might have.
