Hello All,
Peter Lubin in his
magnificent "Kickshaws and Motley" drew attention to this stylistic feature
which he called, if I'm not mistaken, "cola".
Kind regards, A.
Bouazza

EDNOTE. Abdellah Bouazza is quite right in pointing to Peter Lubin's
classic (and hilariously brilliant) article that appeared in the Northwestern
TRIQUARTERLY Nabokov issue #17 (Winter 1970), p. 187-209. His essay
should be reprinted for the delectation of all good Nabokovians. Lubin
does use the term "cola" but only as a putative partial source for
a word he coins: "capicue" meaning a numerical palindrome. Nicholson Baker
also toys with "cola" (< Lat. coda 'tail') in a stunning article "The
History of Punctuation" (in his collection _The Size of Thoughts_) which
offers the coinage "Colash" a blend of 'cola' and 'dash'
(:__).
