CFP - The International Vladimir Nabokov Society MLA 2020, Seattle: Nabokov and Contemporary Writing
The International Vladimir Nabokov Society invites paper proposals on 'Nabokov and Contemporary Writing' for its guaranteed panel at the MLA 2020 Meeting in Seattle next January. We are interested in papers on how living writers - whether novelists, poets, playwrights, or writers of creative non-fiction - have drawn on Nabokov's work, whether in celebration or in criticism. How does Nabokov continue to be a fertile and challenging presence in contemporary letters? Papers from practising writers, including those describing their own response to Nabokov, are warmly welcomed as well as those by scholars. CFP - The International Vladimir Nabokov Society MLA 2020, Seattle: Nabokov and the Risks of Being Human
The International Vladimir Nabokov Society invites paper proposals for a special session panel on the theme "Nabokov and the Risks of Being Human" for the MLA 2020 Meeting in Seattle next January. (This panel is being organized in connection with the 2020 MLA Presidential Theme, "Being Human.") The topic may be construed broadly, but preference will be given to papers addressing the challenges, flaws, and pitfalls of human nature as presented in Nabokov’s works, including considerations of interpersonal ethics, human consciousness, the body, humanism, time and memory, relations to the non-human, death, love, despair, or related themes (e.g., Nabokov and philosophy, Nabokov and human rights, Nabokov's metaphysics, etc.).
