I would certainly like to thank Dmitri Nabokov for taking the time to
contribute to answering my question, and to Don Johnson for his suggestion,
as well. I think I might have used my terms too loosely (the temptation of
this infernal informal e-mail) when I asked about the state of readiness for
publication -- I knew that the notes were not in galley stage, or anything
like that, but I understand that VN intended to have them whipped into shape
for publishing, and I wanted to know if he added a line like the Dostoyevsky
one only for the sake of future versions, or, based on its presence in the
Lectures as we have them, if I could assume he actually said it in class
(and if so, what kind of a reaction it elicited from his students -- if
any). Thank you again.
